All of this! Great job Daniel. While she may be meant well, her garbled words and a video of her African son was mostly offensive.

A White woman has her Black adopted son dancing like a caricture, and she’s cheering him on like he’s some kind of monkey. While it may not have been her intention, it was a very bad look. She should have checked in with her Black friends before posting that video. They would have told her to do or say something else, maybe even helped her craft something that wouldn’t be perceived as self-serving — providing they are too assimilated. Being a good ally is also knowing how to respond to situations like these appropriately.

She has no connection to the community, therefore, she hasn’t earned any grace. Thank you for have the emotional intelligence and cultural competency to understand this moment.
