Poor people and unskilled people don’t get a shot at slavery. Coming from Black and Brown countries (African, Spanish, etc.) with histories to slavery and colonization you’re less likely to have the thousands of $$ to apply legally for citizenship. Citizenship is s shame for some, a guarantee for others. The skin color matters.
