Bingo! Bingo! Bingo! This is all colleges have been concerned about for decades. Now, the chickens are coming home to roost. Offering BS degrees and credentials that people will NEVER be employed with has been happening for far too long. There is a disconnect between communities, secondary schools, colleges and industry too. Schools teach to state/federal standards. Colleges take young adults unaware of current hiring trends and offer them dated degree tracks and programs. Industry wants what it wants and needs what it needs and won’t go to the community to tell them what they need or expect from them in order to bring them into their workforce. -12 schools are left out of the loop, parents are left out of the the loop and so are the kids.
The existing higher ed and public school pipelines are unsustainable. Nothing is working, and no one is benefiting from anything offered today. Not to mention the debt incurred for the useless credential that you’ll never be able to pay off. It’s terrible.
