Family day trips were cool but long vacations were a bit much. I enjoyed the trips when they were smaller and easier to appease/entertain.
No kids don’t get better when they get older (sorry). The teen years were terrible for me personally. Wherever we planned to go, they hated. They never wanted to leave their friends and they were involved in extracurricular activities which made it possible to skip town. Our last trip was so awful I refused to take my teens anywhere else. It’s too costly, too time consuming, and too disheartening to sacrifice your already limited time for disrespectful kids. My husband and I hired a sitter and we took our own vacations and I was able to get my life back. We did things we wanted to do, we saved money, and we enjoyed each other’s company.
My friend had 4 kids ranging from 11–19, and she doesn’t go anywhere no because all the girls have turned “girly” and enjoy absolutely nothing. Literally nothing.
“The beach is too sandy, and fish pee in the ocean. It’s nasty.”
“It’s too to go outside.”
“There is no wifi there.”
“I’m ready to go home so I can lay on my bed and use my phone.”
Kids today are different. Enjoy them while they are small. When they change…boy do they change, making family vacations a terrible idea.
