Funny you say this. My partner and I make jokes every weekend when Joy is on television. I say they let her come out of the fields into the big house to talk. Joy replaced Melissa Harris Perry, who was also silenced by disgruntled White people not interested in what she was there to do, talk to Brown folks.
Joy was banished/punished for her old blog postings. I have seen her a little more as of late, but I expect her to be gone soon, just like the did Al Sharpton, and Melissa Harris Perry. Tokenism is in high fashion, and it seems White people viewing these shows are just fine with that.
There is never any room for Black and Brown people. Behind the camera, in front of the camera, or in the news for something other than crime and misery. You’re right ALL of the meaty spots are for saved for White men and women…with a few token Indian or Asian men, but there is never room for more than 1 Black anything be it a man or woman on national news networks.
I’m particularly disturbed by how people of color are always given the jobs of discussing race. It’s the equivalent of having a Black person do a diversity training, to an all White class. The entire issue is they don’t like us telling them about how they lack diversity and they can’t receive a word from people of color about their biases. In my opinion, the work should be done by Whites, for Whites when it comes to diversity because we aren’t the ones with the diversity issues, they are. The same goes for the Black and Brown folks on national networks in relation to diversity commentary. When will White folks finally do the heavy lifting of their own baggage? It’s yet again making race and diversity our problem.
