Great essay here! I never understand why cities and counties think it’s okay to burden the taxpayers with taking care of non-violent offenders by keeping them in jail until their trials because they can’t make bond. I figure it’s so people can have jobs. When people are incarcerated because they can’t make bail, losing their jobs, transportation, homes, families, it just further burdens the taxpayers. America is so punitive, always wanting to punish folks without thinking of the long-term impact of how the punishment will affect their communities and the nation.

How many people have been locked out economy because of an arrest and inability to make bail, which lead to a chain-reaction of events? Millions maybe. Those are people who can’t sustain themselves or their communities. Cut off your nose spite your face. Smh
