I also think that it’s crucial not to dehumanize Trump in this process. When he is treated as an anomaly or some kind of monster instead of a human being, we miss an opportunity to see how his humanity is exactly what lead him to be the way he is.

I agree with everything you’ve said except this. Trump is a racist and a serial killer. Yes, he fits the profile of a serial killer and a serial predator. To see him as human is to place my life in jeopardy, because there are so many flawed White like Trump who exist just to kill others physically, spiritually, emotionally, and if possible to steal their little wealth. He should be viewed as the evil he is.
And while I believe in treating criminals humanely and allowing justice to have its say, too often there is no justice for victims where the perpetrators of crime against our humanity are men like Trump.
The victims of his serial killer fixation receive no relief. There is no remedy for the life we’ve had to live as being a non-White person living in a White, racist society.
Yet again, here is a call for minorities to see White people as human. It’s almost impossible right now to see Trump and most White people as human because of their long, barbaric history of treating non-White people inhumanely. My Black father is a narcissist and his need for attention stems from his childhood lack and a mother who never said no to her gravy train as a poor woman with lots of kids to feed, but his behavior was never like Trump’s. I can see him as human because I’ve witnessed him being humane not just to me but to strangers.
Trump is a sociopath. Someone who gets pleasure from hurting others. As someone who has worked with child predators, Trump appears to be the most unsafe and inhumane old person I’ve ever been exposed to. He has hurt and broken so many of us. To have compassion for people like him is to ask people to stay around long enough to be abused if not killed.
Your request is very White/oppressor centered and I found this part of your piece for whatever reason offensive as a victim of racism and a descendant of slavery. Trump is representative of all that is wrong with White people. He is Hitler, the pilgrims, and Christopher Columbus. He is Andrew Jackson and General Robert E. Lee. He is the ruthless slaveowner who rapes and kills for fun. He is the klansmen who rides and burns down Black churches, and one of those White men in the angry White mob on the old postcards White folks used to collect and share of Black bodies hanging from Poplar trees. And lets not forget all those evil White men (and sometimes women) who stood around smiling at the sight of inhumane Black death.
This is my history with White men like Trump. To see him as human is to deny my own humanity. To see Trump and men like him as human is to deny the truth you noted we don’t like to acknowledge, that these men are not human at all.
Men and women like Trump are some sort of supernatural evil that manages to procreate and remain plentiful within the Earth. White people and people in power like him who view him as human allow him to live to become an old, abusive, serial killer who gets the reward of lying, stealing, killing, and being inhumane on national television from the highest office in the land. He should have been stopped decades ago, but because we live in a society that allows evil, sociopathic White men to be seen as human (just look at all the White serial killer movies made) while my Black sons are viewed as subhuman and inhumane, people like me are forced to deal with his privilege of being seen as human.
I hate that man with every fiber in my body because he’s so evil.
We victims of racial discrimination are suffering trauma because tRump has been seen as human and extended compassion for far too long instead of receiving the help he needed or jail being he’s an undiagnosed sociopath. I wonder how many people has he killed before making it to the White House. It’s a truth we don’t want to address.
White people seeing White people as human when they have shown themselves to be nothing more than pure evil is an abomination and it’s bad for our mental health. That man’s brand of evil doesn’t need passion or kindness. He needs a cage and a muzzle like Hannibal Lecter.
