I do this too. Why patronize folks who hate you making them wealthy, and why force yourself into unwelcomed spaces. I have never enjoyed and appreciated patronizing Black businesses than I do now, especially kids. I go to our local flea markets, black festivals and events and I buy things I like while supporting my folks.
If we don’t support our own no one else will and then we’re forced to patronize racists. I’m a firm believer in needing to raise our children to do manual labor again (i.e. roofing, plumbing, HVAC, Ag, manufacturering, etc). I spent $20k on a roof and there was not one Black professional roofing company to support. All the bids (16) were from either White or Hispanic businesses. Same with home painting. We have to pay non-Black contractors to take care of our homes, cars, etc. Why?
We’ve pigeonholed ourselves out of wealth by working for others in corporate America instead of doing manual labor and being small businesses.
