I lived in South Carolina all of my life. Non-religious Black people were taught early on that all the White religious leaders you mentioned were racist. What’s appalling to me is how so many White people either didn’t know or didn’t care about the racist beliefs of these men. Bob Jones University has ALWAYS had a terrible reputation, and anyone who attends the school we Black folks simply assumed they are “down with the program” when it comes to the segregationist and discriminatory beliefs of the founders and friends.
I feel as though these things should have been well-known. It’s a sad state of affairs when White people can live in such insulated worlds they can afford to not know how the rights of Blacks and minorities groups are consistently under fire and infringed upon. We are not going “back,” anywhere. We were already where we are today, especially in the deep South. Nothing changed, it’s simply been uncovered. These people have infiltrated our governmental systems and are influencing policies that impact us all. They didn’t just show up there, we voted them into office. This includes Trump.
The saddest thing of it all is the number of Black people I know who followed all of these old dudes hoping they’d get a ticket into White heaven to see White Jesus.
Nothing is going to change because the same old racist White men, their bigoted women, and the fools of all colors who follow them are everywhere. America is rotting from the inside, and as long as we have the same systems and institutions that allow fascists and racists to thrive, we’re doomed.
