I really enjoyed this. I must say I’ve seen more Black transmen and women in South Florida than I’ve ever seen anywhere in my LIFE besides the ATL where all young Black gay people seemed to go to come out. I love having a mature, Black LGBTQ presence here. My partner and I went to Jazz in the Gardens this weekend for the 2nd year in a row and I love seeing my trans family out proudly with their partners, especially older LGBTQ family members. I would say moving should definitely be on your radar. Seeing more people like yourself and being able to live without people scrutinizing your decisions is an absolute necessity.
The other thing is they have tribes. We need tribes. It doesn’t matter if you’re single or in a relationship. Tribes provide support, advice, and also aid in modeling good, healthy relationships where there are so few in small Southern places. Lastly, moving allows you to be free. You can explore. Dine out with your boo-thang and friends. Go out to bars and clubs. Enjoy meet and greets. Enjoy life without fear and in your own skin. You’re accepted for who you are. We are family.
If you have the opportunity B, move to a larger city or close to one where you can access all the things a big city has to offer for strong LGBTQ communities without the burden of the cost of living. I strongly recommend it. Great read and good tips. I learn something new every week. Keep teaching.
