I think it depends on the individual. Some people simply cannot for their own personal safety. Others cannot because employers can infringe upon our rights to free speech. Sometimes, people have inside information they need to share but discreetly because of work clauses and confidentiality, but it’s necessary to inform the public about what you know.
At the end of the day, if the info is true and correct, I don’t really care what your name is. Legitimate sourcing in stories matter to me more.
