I think we all can do some housekeeping to help our fellow man, but it seems the burden in one way or another falls on or takes from Blacks. I would say your view is that of a dominant group view. The fact that so much of the Black and Brown world is trying to meet a standard of Whiteness when you can clearly see so much beauty in other cultures is a sad. It is always interesting to hear the views of people who live abroad. I still believe you have a different experience than other people of color as a White man. Not in all cultures, but I think the experiences you’ve had could be a lot different if you weren’t White.
It sounds as though you’ve had an interesting life. You’ll see color via the eyes of your wife. It sounds as though she lives the experiences of other women of color. We (Blacks) get bombarded with images of White beauty most of the day, even of Black Entertainment Television. We all live in the same world, but we see it differently. We live it differently. We experience it differently. But I believe what we can’t discount is the impact of White Supremacy globally. While many culture have had the power and resources to keep it at bay, much of the world has not. The racism and colorism between the various ethnic groups and nationalities in America and globally is real. I think it needs to be owned. If we spent the time apologizing and repairing the damage done instead of not dismissing petitions, I think we’d be a lot better off.
We get no where if we can’t even acknowledge there is a problem and work to get to the root of it.
