I was an Evangelical for years and attended a multi-ethnic church until Obama ran for office. My eyes were really opened to the hate and racism White conservatives have for Blacks and other minorities outside of “charitable works,” and even then their tolerance was low. What really shook me was one day in the church office I heard our pastor’s wife, his mother and a bunch of older White conservative members really talking about Obama badly. From his looks, to his name, to his White mother. They didn’t believe he was a Christian even after he said he was. The more it looked like he was going to win, the more racist Evangelicals became. The straw that broke the camels back was when our good White pastor told the congregation which was about 45% Black that voting for Obama was voting for the Antichrist. We all looked around in shock. That was the last day I sat in a church. All the things I’ve read about how Christianity was used to enslave us slapped me in my face.

I felt like a fool, scammed by crooks. I haven’t allowed religion to impact a decision I make since. Evangelical religion is powerful, it’s evil, it’s deceptive, it’s rooted in racism and segregation, and most importantly it intersects with White privilege, patriarchy, and all the lies linked to American exceptionalism. It’s very much like a cult or a sanctioned hate group for a person of color inside of it. And clearly there can’t be a Jesus. If it were, they would be afraid to treat people the way they do.

I left a lot of my forgiving Black and Brown friends behind. Most People of color left. There are a few loyal Blacks still listening to the lies and ignoring the low lying fruit hanging from the bad tree.

The White folks are still there standing strong, forging on with plans to get their little pet issue Roe v Wade overturned and to stack conservative judges in the courts to maintain White power in addition to keeping their prison industrial complex funded with free help.

They have really done a snow job on the religious that’s for sure. Thanks for calling them on their hypocrisy.
