I worked for one of the organizations that kinda sorta benefitted from the red ribbon campaign. Like the gay ghettos in the large cities, the HIV epidemic ravaged the rural pockets of the U.S. too. We were really invisible, but it was my job to care for my people and I did. It was very sad…. But we survived. This was a great first — person piece on the effects HIV had on the gay community.
