If it doesn’t apply Mary, let it fly. In noting where Elevator Ellen was from, I was addressing how in places like the Midwest there are fewer people of color Blacks (for my non-Americanand non-White readers), so White women coming to places like Washington, DC (know as the Chocolate city beyond Congress) may be fearful of us without justification. Just because you’re tired doesn’t make it a lie. This story isn’t about you. It’s about ME and people like me who experience this every single day who were validated by my experience (see the comments).
You took my entire essay and centered it on you, so I must assume you’re a White woman. You also did not address the racism and microaggressions me and the man on the elevator had to endure thanks to scary Elevator Ellen.
God forbid someone else’s trauma is addressed I suppose.
