I’m sorry to hear that Lakitha. I have a friend who does home dialysis because she doesn’t have kidney. She used to tell us how unclean and unsafe those places are, so my heart goes out to you and your mom. I got a really bad viral infection a few years ago from traveling back and forth to D.C. for work and it scared my lungs, so I too must be really careful about catching anything that could injure my lungs and more. I knew enough about how viruses work from working with HIV and having a husband in health care who worked with infectious diseases to not listen to our government.

I had masks and gloves for doing yard work, so I wear my stuff if/when I go out. I lather every thing from the grocery store in bleach and dish detergent outside before bringing it into my house, I don’t care what they say. They said don’t wear mask and look at us now.

I check the mailbox with my gloves on and I dispose of the outside envelopes in the outside garbage before bringing them into my house. I keep Pinesol in my car with an old rag, as well as a spray bottle with bleach and water in the event I need to wipe something down. I wash my butt and the clothes I wear outside if I go into stores. Before I stopped walking, I wore my mask because people weren’t adhering to the social distancing rules.

It’s up to us to protect ourselves Lakitha. I have zero trust in this administration, not even to give us accurate info on the total number of people infected or killed. If I were your mom, I wouldn’t leave the house. It’s not worth the risk, especially now since this time period has been declared “war time,” which means doctors and nurses have the power to act as God. They have the power to preserve the lives they want to and administer death now as they see fit. If you have racist healthcare workers, and we know there are, we will most certainly won’t be saved when there is a choice. Racism is in all all things, even “war time medicine.”

The health disparities are not being reported accurately, and the rate of Blacks dying to compared to rates is higher. You’d never know it because the media isn’t reporting it. Trump wants to keep the numbers low for a reason. That’s one of the reasons why I believe.

You’re right, most Black people already suffer from hypertension, pre-hypertension, diabetes, kidney failure, and heart health issues which puts a significant part of the population at high-risk for becoming infected. We cannot believe anything, we must use the discernment our ancestors gave us to survive this moment. We’re going to be devastated because we’re in positions which serve the public. We’re bus drivers, deli workers, Uber drivers, mail carriers, police, social workers, etc.

White people will suffer, but not the way we will. It will be another injustice thanks to good old American inequality. The need to have a White man pacifier got us here. Obama would have never…

Be well Sis. Stay safe. Wash everything. Keep mom indoors. Trust no one, and protect your household. Assume everyone and anyone has Covid-19 and live that way. It’s the only way we’re going to survive.
