I’m sorry too Sherry Kappel. I must admit, I have worked with a number of White women who seem to not remember they sat in the same room with me for 8–10 hours a day/5 days straight and then can’t remember me a few months or a year later. It amazes me how quickly they can forget a face or connection because I don’t forget them. I guess people of color are transactional for some folks. I just hate the act of examining myself after interactions like the one on the elevator. I need to check to see if I’m meeting an unattainable standard. I just try to remember I’m not the one with the problem. I don’t live in fear, and I surely can’t expect to help people if I’m afraid of them. Just makes ya wonder what is on the mind of some of these women. Again, how do they work in a field where we help people if they are afraid of certain ones. I hate to think of all the people not served because they are afraid of them.
