It’s Going To Be Harder To Find Me

The site is changing more and more each day making it harder for me to connect with my readers.

I just wanted to share with readers Medium is changing (again) and killing publications. All of them, there’s and even the ones they don’t own like our personal publications where we park all of our writing making it easier for readers to find the body of our work. If you search individual writers, you’ll find me and the rest of the readers you may follow, but if you’re looking for work we’ve written under any publication, including our own, you won’t be able to find them. As Medium retools, there will be more changes, likely daily.

It’s going to get harder to find us as Medium revamps, retools, and comes up with more shenanigans to make the site more profitable. It’s just business.

I know.

Please make sure you follow me using the follow button or search for me on Medium (Marley K) to ensure you’re reading the latest writing from me. Use my profile to get all of my handles. I don’t write here much anymore because what I write currently is barely is read. My publication, Marleyisms, doesn’t show up in the search engine anymore as of this morning. There is nothing I can do about it. It is what it is.

Writers cannot fight with algorithms. We cannot demand anything from something we do not own. I have transferred my work onto my new site (see my bio) preparing for the big ax or buyout. Medium is a tech company first, which means there will always be updates and experiments which makes me very uncomfortable about the future of the site.

Lots of writers are having the same issues with readership and followers not being able to find out stuff. Some of it is accidental, but most of it is intentional. Medium caters to a certain target group(s) and if you’re writing about things that are not of interest to the group(s), you're basically suppressed. Medium caters to White men making $100k annually in the Silicone Valley area. This group makes up the majority of Medium’s readership.

Antiracism and racism are not popular subjects for White people in general, and definitely not for the Tech Industry which is predominantly White and Asian, and so I expect to be suppressed, a lot. It’s the American way.

Also of note, if you’re using the Medium app, our links directing to sites outside of Medium often don’t work (I personally experimented with this as well as a few other writers/readers). Links work fine if you’re reading our work in a web browser, just fickled, or not at all with the app. I deleted the app some time ago because I couldn't get the stories to come up properly and I hated the format. If you’ve had a problem trying to click links that redirect you from Medium, this is why.

We’re here, we’re trying to write, but it’s very discouraging. If you enjoy my work, you’ll need to work harder to find it. Marley isms dot com I will spend the majority of my time until the smoke clears. Please make sure you pay attention to the changes happening here and don't just blindly believe your favorite writers aren’t writing. You’re intentionally being redirected to read other things algorithms have been told are more important.

None of us pay money for the site to treat us this way, but this is what’s happening. No amount of complaining does any good either. If you want to read about racism and antiracism, you’re going to have to search tags or specific writer handles now because publications are being suppressed. It’s an unprofessional “culling the herd” way of doing business.

As a Black woman, I am accustomed to this and I expect no less. When you see the writing on the wall, you start preparing to move on. I’ve experienced this when I worked in the nonprofit sector, manufacturing, and even in higher education. Things change, and White people have a way of making you very uncomfortable and starving you to make you leave when they are no longer interested in having relationships with you.

The cruelty of capitalism always remains the same. I don’t understand why so many Americans love it so much. Pure capitalism is one of the cruelest types of economies on earth. America is about business, not people. It’s about the naked capitalistic interests of business. People (humans) are simply a means to an end.

This sums up Medium in general.

Only the strongest, smartest, most nimble of us will survive. A dog knows when it isn’t wanted and not liked. So do people. Follow me. My links are in my profile. Explore my new spaces. Technology is forever changing and evolving. We have no control over it. We can only control what belongs to us. I’m taking control. I hope you’ll decide to come along for the ride. I’m still working on a few things, but for the most part, it’s presentable to entertain company.

I’m probably on somebody’s poo-poo list, A lot has transpired over the past few months due to some instances of plagiarism I called out, but I’m a big girl. I always have Plan B and C like any wise person.

Hope to see you soon.
