People are outraged about this, but no one is outraged about American children in foster care all over the country having to stay in hotels because of the lack of foster homes. State governments are pulling kids from their homes, with no place to put them. The majority of children in foster care are Black . No one cares, because the media doesn’t care. It’s not new, but it’s still a crisis. What is humane about taking kids from their families and putting them in hotels with strangers. They care when it suits them. Politicians only care when it makes good political sense. Besides, their a method to the manufactured madness. It’s always about money and ratings, as your piece accurately points out.
The same excuses about gang violence migrants at the border being detained are giving for asylum, are the same excuses given by poor moms in bad neighborhoods here in the U.S. who are asking for help. The difference the media decides which story is important. Gangs are bad everywhere. Kids are being recruited, families are being threatened, and kids are being killed everywhere. Who decides which group(s) of people are worthy of help, and which crises (real or manufactured) are worthy of being reported? The media does, that’s who.
