Perhaps your savior syndrome motivates you, guilt maybe? I don’t know what motivates you to do what you do. What motivates me is that we seem to see differently, and White men don’t want anyone to talk about injustice or things that are wrong with them. All they do is what you just did, deflect and talk about African American communities.
But it’s okay. We know how this goes. I wished you were Black for one year…see if you’d be singing the same tune and seeing through those same savior like lenses.
I help all kinds of people in my line of work. Poor, rich, educated, police, nonprofits. It’s my Black privilege coming out of me. I serve with honor, silently. I don’t need to announce what I do to help, but I sure as hell do need to call out racism and violence, regardless of what color the perpetrator is.
