Thank you so much for your compliment and the sharing about how Canada has treated immigrants. I appreciate how you note Canada extended reparations as an effort to make a group whole. It’s the gesture and sincerity that matters. The First Nations will be difficult indeed, but in order to make things right, it should be done.

One thing that always irritates me about reparations is how the government decides who gets reparations, the amount, and what form the reparations should come. There is this often racist diagnosis that minorities don’t know how to spend money, and won’t make good decisions with it. America did the same with Native Americans. They tied up their reparations in corporations and assigned overseers of the funds— which is as patronizing to those dealing with the affects of displacement, theft, assimilation, and trauma.

It seems only where minorities are concerned to we need an overseer. It’s the same settler/colonizer mentality.

I agree, we need to stop acting like we all can be rich. We can’t. We need to stop pretending everyone needs to own a home. They don’t. We all need a safe, dry place to sleep and rest, but it’s okay to rent it if we can’t afford to buy for whatever reason. We need to stop pressuring people to buy things they can’t afford and are ill-equipped to care for. People don’t know how much work it is caring for a home until they get it. It’s not for everyone. College isn’t for everyone either. People force their kids to attend college to impress friends, family, and co-workers. Kids are stressed today because we are force them to be something they aren’t.

The American dream is a disaster. We need to squash it and be realist about life. It’s hard, but as you said being a little better and having a little more than our parents is just fine. That’s okay. We need to tell folks that. Thanks for your wise advice. You’re a smart man. I’ve enjoyed reading your essays. Your new form of government is a great plan.
