I believe that as a society we have created unrealistic expectations about a lot of things. We are supposed to be able to have the perfect body, drop out of college to create something out of nothing that makes us billionaires, find our soul-mates with whom we live in blissful passion, and never get old or infirm. Like the opiate epidemic, these are all fueled by unsustainable fantasies of unbridled pleasure.
This!!!!!! Unrealistic expectations, and society failing to think of marriage systemically. From beginning to the end, and adding in some risk management for all the what ifs (like kids). Great article. Affairs don’t solve problems, but sometimes they really do keep people from going crazy I believe.
