This is such a profound statement. I feel this in my soul. To forsake our own culture to assimilate or center Whiteness is to live a life of discomfort. It's to be subhuman. The contorting and conforming just to be is to much to bear. Even in the privacy and comfort of our homes we are not in peace, bombarded with imagery of Whiteness, tropes and stereotypes of Blackness, and ideologies of Whiteness.
We can't continue living this way and survive. We're already dealing with traumas on multiple fronts, and this pandemic and economic collapse is going to devastate the Black community in a way we weren't prepared for. We've gotta move away from centering Whiteness and begin centering ourselves. I appreciate your reflection on such a deep level. This is a safe space for Black thought and I encourage more Black people to being thinking more deeply about the state of our collective.
We are heading into a new territory in America, and probably the only people ready for it are Black folks born and raised in the deep South. Folks are going to be in for a rude awakening. Lines are being drawn as we speak. As resources and opportunities dry up, White folks will get more territorial.
