Where is the United Nations (UN) when we Americans need them to come to our rescue?
The United States is a member of the United Nations which is located in New York City. The United Nations can take action on the issues confronting humanity in the 21st century, such as peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, human rights, disarmament, terrorism, humanitarian and health emergencies, gender equality, governance, food production, and more.
Well, the UN should come to assure our human rights are being protected because America isn’t peaceful right now, and it sure as hell isn’t secure since the FBI, Secret Service, Customs and Border Patrol, and TSA are either furloughed or working for free. Our basic human rights are being violated. Those of us who work for the government have had our jobs and contracts canceled and pay withheld. Some of us are at risk of being homeless. We can’t feed our kids or ourselves. It’s winter, extremely cold and people can’t pay their utility bills.
Domestic terrorists are harassing us from the White House to the church house and from Main Street and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. People of Color are living in fear. Some of us can’t shop for groceries, worship, check our mailboxes, ride the subway, or protest in peace in the nation’s capital. Our homegrown terrorists are young and old, almost always White and privileged with some violent past or an overlooked mental health issue. We have young White men right here in the U.S. being recruited online into White Nationalists movements, and our government doesn’t believe these individuals need to be under surveillance.
This administration has is erasing gender equality laws and policies passed by the previous administration along with any strides made over the last 20 years. Our government has been rolled back or done away with laws that protect gay and transgender people.
Or governance just sits and does nothing like shit in a dirty toilet bowel. We’re in the middle phases of a fascist takeover.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has been demolished and defunded, taking away our ability to have and afford health care. We voted for it, our government promised it to us. They gave it to us, then they took it away. People are able to buy guns with mental illnesses to harm us. Parents furloughed can’t pay copays for doctor’s visits and medication, and they can’t get care for their families.
We need disarmament, our kids can’t go to school without fearing some little White kid is going to come to school with a shotgun or an automatic assault rife because he has mental issues, anger issues, privilege issues, or all of the above.
UN, we are fucking starving. Families with government jobs have been forced to seek food security from food stamps, food banks, family, or friends. Some U.S. Citizens are working and living abroad, and the shutdown has literally left them stranded with no money to provide for their families stateside. We have food insecurity, where is the help? Many of us have exhausted our emergency funds, and we don’t have family or friends we can borrow from. Years of job losses, student loan debt, and a lack of pay raises combined with a rising cost of living has decimated us. We are beaten down with nothing left to give.
Will the American charity Feed the Children feed our children? We weren’t poor until the President withheld our work. Where are Billy and Franklin Graham’s and their charity Samaritan’s Purse? My purse almost empty and the gas tank is almost on E. Do I need to live in a third world country to get help? Graham loves and supports this President, the same one that hates the people his charities serves. They use our tax dollars and generous donations to feed others, but what about us? What kind of God do they serve?
Where is humanitarian aid for America people being forced into poverty by its government? Why isn’t anyone coming to our rescue? Can’t the world see us struggling? Do they not see the circus we call a government? American taxpayers have come to the aid of so many nations in need so many times. Why have they forsaken us?
In addition to the general areas the UN’s charter covers, the United States has violated a significant number of Articles member Nations (including the United States) note they stand for.
American has violated nearly every Article in the UN’s Declaration of Human Rights, especially where People of Color are concerned. For example, Article 1 says all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Well, it says so on paper, be we know that’s not so in reality. Certain People of Color are unable to live free and with dignity due to institutional racism and White Supremacy that permeates every part of our lives.
Article 5 of the Declaration says no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. In America, people crossing the border are being treated inhumanely and suffering due to degrading treatment. So are government workers and contractors not allowed to work for pay to support our households. It’s inhumane to take away a person’s ability to care for themselves while the Man-Child-In-Chief has a tantrum about a wall. In Article 14, Section (1) notes everyone is supposed to have the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.
Immigrants seeking asylum in America do not have this right. Articles 16 and 17of the Declarations are being violated on the regular.
America has all kinds of messiness going on, and the UN is silent and the world is watching, uncertain of whether to offer help or watch from the sidelines for fear of retaliation for getting involved like many people witnessing domestic violence.
The world is watching the U.S. in horror like a woman who got her first slap in what will eventually become a very long and brutal domestic violence relationship with her abusive husband. She’s in shock and doesn’t know what to do. This isn’t the person she married. He’s not the person she fell in love with. She never saw any of this coming. No one is coming to rescue her.
America is hurting, and no one is coming to our rescue. What is everyone waiting for?
Our human rights are being violated right here in America by our tyrant President and a weak, incompetent Congress, and the UN sits idly by as if they are White people waiting for the right time and looking for the right words to have a discussion on racism with a close friend.
How many kids have to be killed at school? How many working class people will need to starve to death or lose their homes? How many more people need to be killed by domestic terrorists? How many children must die in the custody of Custom and Border Patrol trying to seek asylum? How long must People of Color live without dignity and unequal rights? Will Jews need to be marched off to concentration camps in America before the UN sees a problem?
What must happen here in the United States to get the world to notice our suffering? I don’t know, but it sure feels like we’re all alone right now. The world’s police is in need of policing.
It feels sort of like you’ve lent money to people when they needed it, but when you need your money, those people are nowhere to be found.
America, it looks like we’re all we got. I’m thankful for the people who have extended kindness to me.
