While no time was wasted on on investigating the allegation, I have an issue with anyone wasting time of people in place to help victims of crime. When I worked in sexual assault in big D1 college town, I detested when White girls lied on Black athletes because those guys rejected them. These chicks wasted my staff’s time. They wasted a slot for publicly funded PTSD counseling that could have gone to a real victim. I try my best to be a good steward of publicly funded programs. They pulled on our heart strings and exhausted our emotional resources unnecessarily. Not to mention the police who could have been working on another case. Usually, police departments allocates limited (usually 1–2 people tops) manpower to certain cases for “regular folks.”

If it’s a kid, cop killer or a White lady with blonde hair, they usually get top billing and extra manpower as victims. Everyone else falls by the wayside.

Those non-high profile real cases are put on hold to waste time and resources on liars. So yes, while police did their jobs, they put other victims and their families cases aside.

Real victims of crimes have their cases put on hold and their chance at justice prolonged because someone made a false allegation (high profile or not). I’m upset with anyone, regardless of race, for lying — putting innocent people in jail for personal reasons, and for using resources. We should all be outraged about that.

Many people are unjustly incarcerated because of lies. Smollett was willing to put two Nigerian men in prison, screw up their citizenship status, and ruin their lives for a scheme he concocted never expecting to be caught. That’s an issue.

I’m never going to stop believing in hate crimes, but just like I did in this case, I’m going to use my common sense and call bullshit when I see it and hear it.
