Yes you are correct. Let me give you a few other takeaways:

Having her son on a video dancing is an old racist trope that Black folks dance jigs for White people, like Blackface. Check out the video: https://youtu.be/-_swtbIi2F0

A Black man seemingly dancing for a White woman at her command is just a bad look, even if it’s his White mother.

A Michael Jackson was a bad pick because we had a mixed relationship with him. He mostly associated with White celebs and was disconnected from the Black community (which explains all his plastic surgeries to get White facial features).

The messaging before the video was garbled. A word salad that took a way from the meaning of the moment — the taking of Black lives. She had a translated “ all lives matter message” which is highly offensive. We are attempting to focus on us and shifting the focus away from our movement is an injustice (and an insult).

She nor her son has a track record of doing anything for the Black community, her words rang hollow and insincere.

Having her son dancing for such a moment implies all we care about is being entertained, another racist trope many White people believe about us.

Her post was a plug for her kid, she used Black pain to do it and she’s going to get away with it because most White people think it was great. Most Black people believed it was tone deaf and not helpful.

Thanks so much for taking a crack at it. I just wanted to elaborate a little more about how horrifying it was to a lot of us, especially those of us who are old enough to know what old racist sterotypes look and feel like.
