You forgot one possible reason. The White person feels guilt but wants all to know they recognize their privilege. The person wants a pat on the back because he/she needs praise. They are in no way interested in accepting responsibility for having that privilege. In fact, the person is uncomfortable in that moment of disclosure, and he/she hates being vulnerable so they deflect instead of having a quiet spirit choosing to reflect. It’s a gift they didn’t ask for is an excuse whether white people want to admit it or not. A true cop out. The disclosure is all about them, never about the impact on victims of white privilege, superiority, and supremacy.
I was born black. It’s the gift that never gives me anything. I didn’t ask to be black and placed at the bottom of the totem pole, but here I is!
See how ridiculous that sounds. Sometimes White people just need to shut up and listen. But they have so much privilege they even have the freedom to exempt themselves from any and every thing they want and need to for self preservation.
