You hit on so many points and my mind is racing. I think we’ve been conditioned, trained, and shamed into not being selfish. Conditioned to believe we can’t think about anyone except ourselves, and I like so many other women stay hoping one day people will see how we’re wronged. It’s futile.
Even planting the self-advocacy seed with my Black family and friends they give me the “that’s racist” line. I’m racist for not wanting t be abuses anymore.
I really don’t know what to make of pleading for something that hasn’t happened in 400 years. The manager apologized again tonight, but the experience has put a terrible taste in my mouth about this place. I love coming here. I have written a formal complaint. Hopefully, it will have some impact on the front desk staff’s behavior going forward. Black women deserve to be treated just like any other paying customer. Public reviews are the best medicine for such racist customer service.
I’m getting the memo. Our fight is ours. No need to keep asking for help. The problem is not ours to solve. I’m just afraid if we stop identifying it and calling them out, they’ll continue to disguise racism for cultural incompetence. Thanks for the pep talk and the kick up the pants…any time Sis! Get me straight any time.
